Eugene “Outlaw” Jones, 85 of Butler
Eugene “Outlaw”
Jones, 85 of Butler, Missouri passed away April 12, 2025 at the Kansas City
Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri.
Memorial services will be held 2:00 pm Tuesday, April 22, 2025 at
Mullinax Funeral Home, Butler (660-679-0009).
No visitation will be held.
Inurnment will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery, Butler. Memorial contributions may be made to the
Jones family. Messages of condolence may
be left for the family at www.mullinaxfuneralhome.com.
Outlaw grew up in the
Butler area and married Viola Snethen on June 23, 1971. He worked most of his life on small engine
repair for lawn equipment, mowed lawns, and worked for Cox’s Hide and Welston
Trash Service over the years.
Conexon Down tonight for repairs
Conexon will be making repairs tonight to a damaged fiber line within the City of Butler. This will cause a loss of service to Conexon internet customers from midnight tonight to approximately 6:00 AM tomorrow for customers in an area east of West Street and North of Fort Scott Street

Pursuit And Arrest In Cass County
On Sunday night, April 13th, 2025, at around 10:45 p.m., a deputy with the Cass County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation in Pleasant Hill — the driver didn’t stop and a pursuit ensued.
After the
deputy activated his emergency lights, the driver began heading northbound on
State Rte 291 at a high rate of speed, eventually turning back southbound, then
eastbound toward Pleasant Hill. The Pleasant Hill Police Department then deployed
a tire deflation device near the Green Bridge south of town on State Rte 7. The
device punctured the driver’s tires and he came to a stop, where he briefly
fled on foot before Pleasant Hill Police apprehended him.
While
clearing the scene, deputies observed a pistol holster near the suspect’s
vehicle. A Cass County Sheriff’s Office K9 unit was called in and located a
pistol along with several magazines of ammunition. The suspect has been
identified as 19-year-old Lance Alexander of Kansas City.
He’s charged
with Aggravated Fleeing a Stop, which is a Class D Felony.
3 Arrested In Burglary And Theft Investigation
The Vernon county sheriff's office was able to obtain charges for burglary and theft in Vernon county. After a two week long investigation Vernon county investigators with the assistance of the Rich Hill Police department and the Bates county sheriff's office were able to get three suspects in custody.
Sheriff Buehler
stated that "working together with agencies continues to show progress and
making Vernon county a safer place". Names of the suspects have not been
released at this time.

As.the Butler Airport lighting project continued at its
plodding pace last week, a few passing-by airplanes were seen practicing the
RNAV instrument approach procedures, which involves flying down the approach
slope leading to the runway. Of course, the approach is abandoned at the
minimum altitude, about 250 feet above the ground, but workers laying wire and
digging in the line of fire were probably keeping a wary eye out.
With no activity here, Flight Instructor Delany Rindal had
to shift her operations to Harrisonville, where the Cessna 150 flew 14 hours
last week, despite from lost days due to wind. Resident instructor Jay
McClintock flew some of his students in the Piper Tomahawk trainer. I put in
some time in the right seat of Cessna 182s as well.
Of course, the season opening of the SkyDive KC parachuting
drop zone has been delayed by the construction closure. Since there’s only
about 52 days per year suitable for skydiving, this cuts deeply into any
break-even the operation might make. It had been hoped that limited local
flying could take place when workers wee off for the weekend, but that’s not
been the case.
The Butler airport’s native prairie patch got a nice haircut
a couple of weeks back, thanks to City brush-hog mowing. Situated at the north
end of the airport property, the never-plowed grasses and flowers will benefit
with reduction of the overgrowth from last year.
About 20 private airplanes have violated the no-fly
airspace around President Trump’s Mar-A-Lago estate in Palm Beach, FL since he
took office, according to the North American Air Defense Command, which deploys
Black Hawk helicopters and F-16 fighter jets to enforce the zone. His
sometimes-erratic schedule means the NOTAM goes on and off, depending on when
he’s in residence, so local flyers have to adjust to accommodate. Nobody got
shot down, because evil intent was obviously not the case, just carelessness,
but some pilots probably got shook up by jet wash when they were waved off by
F-16s.
Never ones to waste an actual,, near or semi-tragedy,
national news keeps focusing on Washington, DC’s Reagan National airport, where
two airliners brushed wingtips on the ground last week. The crowded little
field is prized by our dedicated public servants rushing home after a hard day
on Capitol Hill, because it’s much handier than Dulles International. But old
DCA has had its share of close calls between military and air carrier planes,
including the commuter jet/helicopter collision earlier this year. The price of
safety is eternal vigilance, when it comes to avoiding human error.
Once again, Rodney Rom did his research on last week’s quiz,
correctly saying “fledermaus” was German for “flying mouse,” meaning a bat, the
only mammal capable of sustained flight. For next week, our question will be

Law Enforcement Agencies Execute Search Warrant in Nevada Resulting in Multiple Arrests
On Friday, April 11, 2025, law enforcement officers from the Nevada Police Department, Vernon County Sheriff’s Office, and the El Dorado Springs Police Department executed a search warrant at a residence in 2500 block of E. Johnson Drive as part of an ongoing investigation into the distribution of methamphetamine and other controlled substances.
The subject
of the investigation, a Cedar County resident, had been under surveillance for
suspected drug trafficking activity. During the execution of the search
warrant, law enforcement located a significant quantity of methamphetamine,
multiple controlled substance pills, and a loaded handgun.
As a result
of the operation:
• Two
individuals were taken into custody on charges related to illegal possession of
firearms and trafficking of controlled substances.
• A third
individual was arrested on outstanding warrants issued by Cedar County.
This
coordinated effort between agencies underscores the commitment of local law
enforcement to combat drug-related crime and ensure the safety of our
communities.

Archie Water Leak Repair Moved to April 15th
Due to the location of the water line leak in Archie , the water department was unable to isolate a small area to shut off to do the repair. In order to cause less time with no water during the day, and not interrupt the school day, the department will now fix this leak on Tuesday evening, April 15, 2025, beginning at 9:00PM. This will cause the water to be shut off in all areas north of A Highway. Once water is shut off, the department will work to restore water service as quickly as possible. Thank you for your patience as we work to fix this leak.

Butler Aquatic Center Hiring for Summer Lifeguards
Applications are available during regular business hours Monday through Friday from 8 am until 5 pm at the Butler City Hall.
