Two Clinton Residents Perish in Head-on Crash on Benton County Bridge
Two Clinton residents were killed after their vehicles collided on the mile-long bridge outside Warsaw, sending one of their vehicles into Truman Lake.
The Missouri
State Highway Patrol says the crash occurred Friday evening, April 25, 2025, at
around 8:45 p.m. on the Mile Long Bridge that carries Route 7 over Truman Lake,
west of Warsaw. According to troopers, a vehicle driven by a 44-year-old woman
was in the southbound lane when she crossed into the path of a northbound SUV
driven by a 26-year-old man, striking it head-on. The collision sent the SUV
into the railing, and then off the bridge. The first vehicle’s driver was
pronounced dead at the scene. The Highway Patrol closed the bridge for several hours
on Saturday to allow recovery of the SUV from the water as well as its driver. Troopers
say both drivers were not wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash.

Clifford Lee Bishop, 99, of Harrisonville
Clifford Lee Bishop, 99, of Harrisonville, Missouri, passed away April 20, 2025 at Golden Years in Harrisonville. A visitation will be held from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm Saturday, April 26, 2025 at the Drexel Christian Church, 211 East Pine Street, Drexel, Missouri. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 pm Saturday, also at the church. Burial will take place in Sharon Cemetery, Drexel. Services under the direction of Mullinax Funeral Home, Drexel Chapel (816-657-4400). Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Messages of condolence may be left for the family at www.mullinaxfuneralhome.com.
Clifford was born November 16, 1925 in West Boone township, near Drexel, MO, to Walter and Norma (Dawson) Bishop. On May 25, 1946, he married Anna Marie Bartles and they made their home in Main City where they lived most of their married life. Clifford & Annie raised their family on the Bishop family dairy farm, and he milked cows until he retired in 1988. Clifford was a CB enthusiast and was known by many by his handle Bulldog. He also enjoyed being in a bowling league, loved all kinds of animals, especially Boston Terriers, loved spending time with his grandkids, and taking them for rides in the back of his truck, on his three wheeler, and later on his four wheeler. His love for ice cream was unmatched! But Clifford loved people even more and always had time to visit. When Clifford was 40, he gave his life to Jesus, and he really was a changed man. He loved singing the old hymns, listening to country gospel music, and playing his harmonica. He was a faithful member of the Drexel Christian Church for about 40 years.
Preceding Clifford in death were his parents, brother
Wayne Bishop, sister-in-law Mary Lou Bishop, wife Anna Bishop, son Dale Lee
Bishop, son-in-law Don Martinette, and great grandson Zachary Schrock.
