Quilting Lovers will want to attend the Clinton Quilt Walk on April 4th and 5th. The White Flower Quilt Shop and Clinton Main Street will host the 6th Annual Quilt Walk. Quilts will be on display in downtown Clinton stores and businesses and they will collect the free Quilt Patterns offered. The quest speaker will be Judy Wompler at the free program each day at 11 am. She will be telling stories told in the Laura Engels Wilder Books. Plus The Clinton Museum will hold a bed turning. That’s the Clinton Quilt Walk April 4th and 5th in Clinton.
Two people were found dead following a late-night house fire in rural Garden City. The Cass County Sheriff's Department and the Garden City Fire Department were dispatched to a home on South O’Bannon Road at approximately 10:47 p.m. Sunday, March, 30th.
When first responders arrived, they found the residence
fully engulfed in flames and heavy smoke, making it impossible for deputies to
enter the home. Emergency Medical Services and fire crews worked quickly to
battle the blaze.
Once the fire was brought under control, firefighters
discovered two deceased individuals inside the residence.
The Missouri State Fire Marshal and the Cass County Fire
Investigation Team are investigating the cause of the fire.
The East Lynne Fire Department, Creighton Fire Department,
Harrisonville Fire Department, and the Central Cass Fire Protection District
also responded to the scene to assist in the effort.
The victims identities have not been released.

Traffic was light around the Butler Airport last week, even
though flying weather was intermittently favorable, when the gusty winds
abated. Over the past months, since the fuel system was shut down, we’ve seen a
decline in transient traffic. Obviously, not having fuel available makes a
difference.
The Bellanca 7KBA Citabria that had been taking refuge here
for a couple of weeks finally got to depart, just before the airport was closed
last Monday. Repairs were made to the fuel injection throttle body so it could
get back to Lee’s Summit. Other planes coming and going were a Piper Warrior
and a Cessna Skyhawk, and a Piper Arrow also visited. Local movements included
Jeremie Platt’s Grumman Tiger, Roy Conley’s Grumman Tr2 and a few Cessna 150
training sorties.
In national news, a California county has been slapped down
by the FAA for refusing to allow leaded 100-octane fuel to be sold at its two
airports. Since 2022, Santa Clara County has required operators to stock only
94-octane unleaded gas or STC’d G100UL unleaded, which some plane owners can’t
or won’t use. That violates the grant agreements stipulated when the county
took federal trust fund money to maintain its airports, one of which is a ban
on exclusivity of services provided.
The Alaska pilot who got stuck in thin ice on a Kenai
Peninsula lake last week, leaving him and his two passengers stranded
overnight, has been stuck in more ways than just out on a lake. It turns out
that he held only a student pilot’s license, so he can’t legally carry anyone
with him. Rules don’t count for much in Alaska, where flying is as common a
driving a pickup. About all the FAA can do is revoke his student ticket and
perhaps levy a fine.
Also last week, Senator Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota got upset
on Friday when she learned that a Minneapolis-bound airliner departing
Washington D.C.’s National airport “narrowly missed” an Air Force T-38 that was
passing by on its way to Arlington Cemetery for a fly-over tribute. Actually,
while surprising, the system worked as it’s supposed to; airliners are required
to carry alerting and resolution gear that warns pilots when a plane gets too
close, and that’s why nobody got hurt this time. But, steps will be taken...
And then there was the red-faced (and probably former)
United Airlines pilot who made his Shanghai-bound Boeing 787 turn around two
hours after departing Los Angeles, because he realized he had forgotten to take
his passport with him. Better to face consequences at LAX than in Communist
China, he figured, but the passengers had to be inconvenienced, arriving six
hours late.
Our weekly challenge from last week wanted to know what
airline advertised its low “peanut fares” by passing out free packs of the nuts
to its passengers. That would have been Southwest, back in the days before
allergy hysteria. For next time, as Butler airport gets a runway lighting

Michael Allen Greer, 59, of Adrian, Missouri, passed away on Monday, February 10, 2025, in Kansas City, MO. Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2025, from 12:00-2:00 PM at the Downey Carriage House in Adrian, MO.
Michael was
born on April 6, 1965, to Robert Greer and Betty (York) Greer in Butler, MO. He
was the 1,000th baby born at Bates County Memorial Hospital. He was a lifelong
resident of Adrian and a 1983 graduate of Adrian High School. Michael started
out building cabinets then later started a construction company, Greer
Construction, and built many homes in the area. He took pride in his work. He
married Theresa (Gaskin) Greer on April 03, 1986, in Adrian, MO, and to this
union of 38 years, they had three children: Kendra, Heather, and Jonathon
"Jon". Michael loved to watch sports, especially the Kansas City
Chiefs and NASCAR. He also enjoyed hunting, playing horseshoes, and bowling. He
bowled at Adrian Lanes for many years and bowled 2 perfect 300 games. He
enjoyed spending time with friends and family. Always ready to make you laugh
with one of his jokes or funny stories.

Mary “Louise” Carroll, age 97 of Appleton City, Missouri formerly of Butler, Missouri died Friday, March 28, 2025 at the Appleton City Manor. She was born November 15, 1927 to Ralph V. And Katrina M. Ridgeway Green in Avard, Oklahoma.
Louise is survived by two sons, Gary Carroll and wife Carel of Archie, Missouri and Leland Carroll and wife Linda of Peculiar, Missouri; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; three step-great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Clarence Green of Ash Grove, Missouri; and a sister, Barbara Samples of Scott City, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles O. Carroll Jr. On December 2, 2022; and seven brothers and sisters.
Harrisonville police are asking for help in locating Kristi Pollington (43 years of age) and her 18-month-old daughter Rosemay Murphy.
On Saturday,
March 15th, 2025, a family member reported Kristi and Rosemary
missing to The Harrisonville Police Department, at which time they were entered
into the computer system as missing. Kristi is not known to have transportation
and family and friends have not heard from her. Also, her last known cellular
telephone number is not accepting calls.
On Thursday,
March 20th, 2025, a Temporary Emergency Ex Parte Order for Temporary Custody
was granted to Rosemary’s father. Then, on Wednesday, March 26th, 2025,
Harrisonville Police Officers were able to confirm that Kristi and Rosemary
left a residence located in Harrisonville, Missouri, on February 14th,
2025, with an unknown means and direction of travel.
Kristi is
described as 5'10", with brown hair, green eyes, olive completion, and
that she likes to wear thick framed reading glasses, and pictures can be seen on the Harrisonville
Missouri Police Department Facebook page and the 92.1 News Now Facebook page.
