The Carpenters Cup to Host 5K Walk/Running for Jesus

The Carpenters Cup in Butler will be hosting a special 5K walk/run May 5th it’s the 5K Running for Jesus event.  Race Location: The Carpenters Cup. Registration begins at 7:00 AM the race will begin at The Carpenters Cup to Vine Street, turn right on Fulton to Atkinson street left on Atkinson to Broadway street. Taking Broadway street to fair grounds where the hydration station will be set up. Back to Nursery to Olive, left on Oak onto Delaware turning right on Delaware to Atkinson, then back to Fulton, to Vine and then to the Carpenters cup.
Course Description: Slightly hilly, watch for some traffic. Finish with one lap.
Awards: Top made and female will receive a medal. Top in 5-year age groups will receive medals.
Proceeds: Benefit for Lily’s House in Adrian
Entry Cost Information: $20.00 with T-Shirt for individuals to run. Business/Group sponsors have a choice of 3 options.

Chiefs’ Demetrius Harris gets jail time after marijuana arrest

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Demetrius Harris will spend two days in jail after taking a plea to possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

According to court records, Harris given was given a suspended imposition of sentence of two years unsupervised probation, complete 80 hours of community service within 90 days, serve 48 hours of shock time, complete the NFL Drug Program, pay board bill in the amount of $70.00, a judgment of $10 plus court costs. As for the charge of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, he must pay a fine of $500.

Harris was a passenger in a car stopped in March 2017 on Interstate 49. He was taken to the Bates County Jail, where he was booked and released.

Patrol Sgt. Bill Lowe says the car was stopped for a traffic violation. He says a trooper smelled marijuana and found the drug on Harris.

The 25-year-old Harris was the Chiefs’ backup tight end behind Travis Kelce the last two seasons and has played in 32 games while making 20 starts. The fourth-year tight end had 17 receptions for 124 yards in 2016, both career highs.
