Butler Town Hall Meeting

The Butler City Council held an open forum Town Hall meeting Monday, evening September 30th.   7 councilmen and women were present as well as acting City Administrator Corey Snead.

The Butler Council opened the Town Hall meeting to welcome those that attended and invited them to share their concerns and questions regarding the city of Butler.

Several citizens made their way to the microphone with a wide range of questions, from the 5-year plan for the city of Butler, the 1% general sales tax on the ballot November 5th, The Spec building is for sale, the city electricity rates, and the top priority of underground infrastructure of water lines, sewer lines and the water treatment plant.

To discuss a few of the concerns with those that did not attend, was the need for volunteers to step up to the plate to assist with the Butler Senior Citizen Taxi. The Taxi service was started in 1978 and is currently under the direction of Len Redding. At the present time the Butler Senior Citizen Taxi is running at capacity and is in need of drivers and dispatchers. The Taxi provides transportation to and from various locations within the city limits of Butler.

The senior Citizen Taxi provides over 40 rides per day for senior citizens ages 60 and over living in the Butler community. The cost is just 50 cents one way.  Redding expressed his concern as to the future of the service for our citizens and he is looking at retiring from this commitment in the near future.

The Butler City Council Town Hall meeting adjourned at approximately 9 pm. The Butler City Council meets the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month at the Butler City Hall. The next public Town Hall meeting will be scheduled for October 28th at 7:00 pm.
