The 2020 Bates County Fair will take place the week of July 6th. This year the fair will be different due to the existing conditions with the Covid 19 pandemic. Careful consideration and thought have been put into the planning of the fair. It has taken the Bates County Fair Board lengthy time to plan for a safe and enjoyable fair for the youth of Bates County.
Many of the events will not be taking place. There will not be the following events for this year: the parade, the Bash, the Talent Show, the Super Teen Contest, the Cattlemen’s Steak Dinner, the 4H Chicken Dinner, the Fair Board Steak and Chop dinner, Bingo, the Purt Near Anything Goes contest, the Baby Contest, the Horse and Mule Show, the Harley Harvey Pee Wee Show, the quilt show, the open in building project show, the open flower show, the awards show, nor the tractor pull. The morning breakfast and the lunches will not be provided this year. The Livestock Judging Contest and the Stockman’s Contest will not take place either. There will not be the contests for the Little Mister/Miss Bates County, the Bates County Fair Princess, nor the Bates County Queen.
It is with great sadness, but with understanding, the 4H/FFA horse show committee will be canceling the show for the 2020 Bates County Fair. Our horsemanship members normally would have had ample opportunities to practice and prepare in clinics, trainings, and open arena practice. Unfortunately, due to the Covid-19 pandemic safety precautions, we have been unable to do so. It is our hope that we can join together this fall and begin preparing for next year. Thank you for your understanding.
The 2020 Bates County Fair will include-4H/FFA building projects (including 4H and FFA hams), and the livestock shows (the beef show, the goat show, the poultry show, the rabbit show, the sheep show, and the swine show). The livestock shows will be for in county 4H and FFA members ONLY. No out of county 4H clubs or FFA members will be allowed to participate for this year only.
