February Support Groups at Bates County Memorial Hospital When you are struggling with health goals, a support group can really help. Bates County Memorial Hospital hosts the following support groups:

Weight Management Support Group: Portion Distortion –  Appropriate portions of all foods Tuesday February 4, 2:00 – 3:00 pm and 6:00 – 7:00 pm in the BCMH Education Center
Grief & Loss Support Group: Coping with the Terrible Threes (Anger, Guilt & Sadness)Thursday, February 13, 2:00 – 3:00 p.m., AB Room
Weight Management: The Skinny on FatTuesday February 18, 2:00 – 3:00 pm and 6:00 – 7:00 pm in the BCMH Education Center
Diabetes Support Group: Don’t Go Breaking My HeartThursday, February 20, 2:00 – 3:00 p.m., AB Room
Quit Smoking Support Group: Thinking Like a Non-SmokerThursday, February 27, 2:00 – 3:00 p.m., AB Room

Weight Management and Diabetes Support Groups are led by Jennifer Lindquist, RDN, LDN, Dietitian-Nutritionist.

Grief & Loss and Quit Smoking Support Groups are led by Jennifer Eick-Jakiela, LCSW, Behavioral Health Consultant for Family Care Clinics of BCMH.

Reservations are not required to attend BCMH Support groups. Attending is free. All meetings are held at the hospital, 615 W. Nursery in Butler, Mo. Groups are also open to caregivers and those who want to support their loved ones. Butler Public Library Super Readers

The Butler Public Library had two more super readers complete the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program – way to go, girls! This free program encourages building the love of reading and bonding time with those in their lives from an early age. Children receive prizes as they hit milestones at each 100 books read. The library is thankful for the donations from Butler Walmart and other local donors that provide the prizes for the kids!

Rape Suspect Arrested in Cass County

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office Tactical Response Team served a search warrant at 11:45 pm, Wednesday, January 22nd, on a house in the 28000 block of E. 245th in rural Harrisonville where they arrested a man in connection with an ongoing investigation of sexual assault being conducted by the Sheriff’s Office.

On Tuesday January 21, 2020, Cass County Deputies were contacted by a female who reported that she had been sexually assaulted at a residence in the 28000 block of E. 245th in rural Harrisonville. Investigators secured a search warrant for the residence. The Sheriff’s Office Tactical Team executed the search warrant and located the suspect inside the residence.

Stephen A. Mattox, 54, Harrisonville was taken into custody without incident for active misdemeanor warrants in Cass County and Harrisonville.

On Wednesday the Cass County Prosecutor’s Office charged Stephen Mattox with Rape or Attempted Rape 1st Degree and Sodomy or Attempted Sodomy. His bond has been set at $50,000 Cash Only.

Mattox is currently in custody in the Cass County Jail on this warrant and three others:

Failure to Appear Unlawful Possession of Drug Para Cass County Bond $100.00

Failure to Appear Drug Paraphernalia Harrisonville Bond $300.00
