Two Men Arrested for Burglary in Butler

On 6/8/2021 Deputies responded to rural Rich Hill area around County Road 6007 in reference to a residential burglar alarm. On arrival the Deputies found the house unsecure and found a trail of coins and dollar bills leading from and upstairs bedroom to the front door. The trail also led from the front porch to the driveway where it was apparent that a getaway vehicle was sitting.

Deputies began a search of the area and made contact with two subject in a vehicle within a mile from the residence. During the contact the two subjects had inconsistent stories with the deputies. A search of the vehicle revealed a backpack full of coins and crimpled bills consistent with the coins and bills found in a trail leaving the residential burglary. Again, the driver and passenger had different stories about the backpack and its origins with the driver finally stating that the back pack was his 78 year old grandfathers.

Contact was made with the grandfather who stated that when he loaned the vehicle to his grandson there were no bags in the vehicle. The driver initially identified himself by providing a fake name to the deputies and offered to show the deputies where he picked up the passenger. The passenger stated he hasn’t known the driver very long and state he only knew him by a street name. The driver was unable to relocate the farm and was returned back to the scene where he was advised that the deputies had properly identified him and that he had multiple warrants.

The Driver was identified as Harlan A Boonstra, 10/30/96 out of Butler Missouri. The driver was arrested on his four outstanding warrants. Boonstra was wanted on two warrants for failure to appear for burglary and stealing more than $750. Two warrants for Possession of a controlled substance and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia. His bonds were set at $29,000. He was transported to the Bates County Jail.

The passenger was identified as Zachery J Handly, 4/21/94 out of Butler Missouri was also arrested and transported to the Bates County Jail. On 6/1/2021 Bates County Detectives working jointly with Adrian PD started conducting a criminal investigation into Handly for a Burglary involving theft of a trailer loaded with misc items and a motorcycle. Charges are expected to be filed on that investigation within the next couple days. On 6/9/2021, both Boonstra and Handly, were charged with Burglary in the 2nd degree and stealing over $750. Bonds were set at $20,000 each.

Resurfacing Projects in Five SW Missouri Counties Scheduled to Begin Week of June 14
 
Southwest District – Drivers can expect lane closures and occasional traffic delays on various routes in McDonald, Barry, Barton, Jasper and Vernon counties for resurfacing projects beginning the week of June 14, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.
These are the routes impacted by this project:
Missouri Route 90 from Missouri Route 43 near Southwest City east approximately 45.8 miles to Missouri Route 37 near Washburn. The project will upgrade crossings in Noel to conform to Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements
Missouri Route 37 from Missouri Route 126 in Golden City south approximately 14.7 miles to Missouri Route 96 in Avilla
Vernon County Route B from I-49 near Sheldon east approximately 14.9 miles to Missouri Route 97 northwest of Jericho Springs. The project will include new guardrail in various places as well as upgrade crossings in Sheldon to conform to Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements.
Traffic impacts: Traffic reduced to one lane where contractor crews are working. Drivers will encounter flaggers and pilot cars where crews are working. Drivers should wait for the pilot vehicle before proceeding through the work zone or before entering the work zone from a side road. Work will be done during daytime hours; all lanes open to traffic at night. No signed detour. Drivers should find alternate routes. Signs and message boards will alert drivers approaching the work zone. Drivers are urged to use caution as they may experience a rough ride in areas until the resurfacing project is complete. Weather and/or scheduling delays could alter the work schedule.

Butler: Benefit Car Show for Alissa Mercer June 26th

A Benefit Car Show will be hosted by Bennet-Miller Transmission of Butler for 30 year old Alissa Mercer. Alissa is the mother of two children a daughter Freja age 6 and son Thor age 4.

 Free will donations will raise funds to assist the family with the mounting medical bills. The Car Show will be held June 26th  at the Family Center North Parking Lot, in Butler.

There will be a 50/50 raffle, food on location and door prizes! All proceeds will be used for the Alissa Mercer Families medical expenses.

Your support, encouragement and donations will make a difference. Please attend the June 26th Benefit Car Show at Family Center North Parking Lot in Butler.

Your attendance and each free fill donation will help defray mounting medical bills so the family can get back to getting their mother well and doing the fun things families do.

Rich Hill 4th of July Schedule

The Rich Hill 4th of July activities will be in full swing on Wednesday, June 30th.

The 2021 theme is, “ It’s a Rich Hill Thing”. Those participating in the parade will need to follow this theme for judging purposes.

The celebration kicks off on Wednesday, June 30th with the 8 pm 5k Color Run, followed by daily activities, contests, games and music.

Hitting the highlights on the agenda is the Baby Contest on July 1st,and  the Talent contest,

On July 2nd the Pie Auction and Karaoke

On Saturday, July 3rd it’s the Easton Corbin concert at 8 pm, followed by the street dance.

The 5 day celebration in Rich Hill wraps up on Sunday, July 4th with the Car Show, the Parade at 3 pm, and the traditional Fireworks display at 10pm on Sunday night, July 4th.
