Milwaukee Brewers’ New Left-Handed Pitching Sensation has Local Ties

Park Hill native and Crowder College Graduate, Aaron Ashby was drafted into the MLB in 2018 straight out of college.

Ashby is the son of Curtis Ashby of Park Hill, and Hope Sullins-Ashby of Rich Hill, and the grandson of Beverly Sullins of Rich Hill, and the late Richard Sullins of Adrian, MO.

Aaron Ashby took the field for his pitching debut on Sunday, August 22nd, throwing in the mid to upper nineties, according to Statcast.

On Sunday, August 29th, left-hander Ashby earned his first Major League win with five strong innings and the Brewers’ finally broke out in a 6-2 victory over the Twins in the series finale at Target Field.

When asked about his performance on Sunday, Ashby replied, “Feels awesome. It’s something you always dream of as a little kid. It’s a special day, and I’m glad we got it for the team. It’s awesome. A good day.”

Ashby went on to say, “Every time I get out there, I feel more comfortable and more relaxed. It’s nice to have that. After you throw that first pitch in an outing, whether that’s starting or in relief, everything else kind of goes away after that.”

Bates County Youth Center Set to Open in October

Bates County Youth Center will be opening for the 2021-2022.  The Bates County Youth Center will open the first week of October on Tuesday and Thursday from after school unit 5:30pm for students Kindergarten thru 6th grade.

This after school program provides a safe place for students to go after school, while parents may be working. While students are attending this after school program a meal will be served.

This year’s Bates County Youth Center will be at the Old Butler Alternative School located at 501 W. Atkinson Ave in Butler.

Bates County Relay for Life Cancelled

Bates County Annual Relay for Life event that is a fund raiser for the American Cancer society has been cancelled for 2021 due to increased cases of covid.  This annual event usually happens in June yearly.  But the American Cancer Society did not think that condition were ready for a in person event in June so The Bates County Relay for Life committee hoped that the event might take place in the Fall.  But due to Covid the American Cancer society had discouraged any in person events for this year.  Hopefully Bates County Relay for Life will return in 2022.
