Operation September Freedom Coming to Butler

Keep your eyes on the sky around 9 am on Tuesday, August 31st and you just might see the Boeing Stearman biplane that will be landing at the Butler Airport. This historic plane is part of Dream Flights, a non-profit organization established and dedicated to honoring seniors and military veterans. Through donors, community support, and volunteers, the Foundation provides Dream Flights in a Boeing Stearman biplane, the same aircraft used to train many military aviators in the late thirties and early forties.On August 1st Dream Flights launched Operation September Freedom which will run through September 30th and will focus on veterans of WWII. Over 1,000 veterans in all 50 states will receive the flight of a lifetime. On August 31st, two Butler residents, Harold Carey and Donald Radford will both be honored with a dream flight. Patricia Pike to Make a Presentation to Outgoing Bates County Assessor, Roger Prudin

There will be a retirement reception for outgoing Bates County Assessor, Roger Prudin, at the Administrative building on Wednesday, August 25th from 1pm to 3pm.

Patricia Pike, State Representative, will be at the Bates County Administration Building tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. to present Roger Pruden with a signed resolution.

The public is welcome and invited to attend. Masks are required for this event.

Plane Crash Victim Identified

On August 23, 2021, shortly after 11 am the Bates County Coroner’s Office was advised by Sheriff Anderson deputies were searching for a downed aircraft. Shortly afterward it was advised the craft had been located and a decedent was located and Coroner Mullinax responded to a location northwest of Adrian.

At this time he has spoken with family members and made certain they’ve been allowed enough time to speak to family and close friends. The Coroner’s Office appreciates everyone’s respectful cooperation during that time.

The decedent was the pilot and sole occupant of the aircraft and is identified as Daniel L. Smith of Adrian, Missouri.

An autopsy has been scheduled in cooperation with the multiple agencies investigating. There will be no further details until the investigation is complete.

Trivia Night

Young’s Tire of Harrisonville will host a Trivia Night at JT’s Steak and Seafood located at 107 East Wall Street in Harrisonville.

Trivia Night will be on Saturday, September 18th with the fun beginning at 7pm.  Cost is $150.00 per team. Big Daddy Dave will be providing your music for the evening.  This is a fundraising event for the Harrisonville High School Senior Mania.
