The City of Butler is accepting applications for a full-time position in the Public Works Department for a Mechanic Trainee. The starting probationary wage is $13.29 per hour. We offer employer paid medical, dental, vision, and life insurance. This position is covered by the MO LAGERS Retirement system. Successful candidates must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent, or any equivalent combination of education and experience, and a valid driver’s license and/or be able to obtain a Class A CDL within six months of employment. Butler Fall City Wide Garage Sale is Saturday, September 11th in Butler. Garage sales are set to start at 8am and Junk in the trunk will be on the Butler square. Garage sale maps will be available at the Butler Chamber of Commerce office located at 17 North Main Street in Butler or anywhere that the Mid-America Shopper is available
Beginning the week of September 13th, the City of Butler will start this year’s road overlay project. It’s expected to last 2-3 weeks. This project is estimated to cost over $340,000 paid for by the ½ cent transportation sales tax. The streets to be fixed were selected based on condition and amount of traffic.

- High Street from Mill to Fort Scott
- Delaware Street from Fort Scott to Nursery
- Vine Street from Fulton to Havannah
- Havannah Street from Vine to Fort Scott
- Dakota Street from Main to Broadway
Residents should prepare for alternate routes and parking accomodations during this time.
Missouri Highway Patrol responded to a accident on Monday, September 6th at approximately 11:37am on Southwest County Road 12497 in Bates County.
The crash occurred when a 2002 Honda ATV driven by Gregory Becker, 36 of Hume Missouri, ran off the left side of the roadway and overturned.
Mr. Becker sustained serious injuries and was transported to Bates County Memorial Hospital.
The ATV was towed from the scene by a private party.
