The City of Butler is now accepting applications for persons interested in employment at the Butler Aquatic Center. Lifeguard candidates must be 15 years of age by June 1, 2021. Candidates must be or be able to become Red Cross certified lifeguards. Pre-employment and post-employment random drug screening is required for the lifeguard position. Starting pay is $10.30 per hour with automatic step increases for each year of service. Applications should be submitted by 5 p.m. Monday, April 4, 2022 to accommodate the City’s training schedule.

Appleton City Masonic Lodge #412 will have their annual pancake breakfast Sunday, February 20 from 6:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. at the Hall, 219 E. 3rd St.  Meals are $5 for all you can eat. Children 5 and under eat free. Eat inside or carry out is available.  There will also be raffles for cash prizes.

The Parents & Friends of the Appleton City FFA would like to invite you to their Annual Labor Auction on February 19 in the high school gym.  The evening will begin with a buyers dinner at 6:00 p.m., served by Kickin’ Chicken, with the live auction starting at 6:30 p.m.  As part of this event they will also have a silent auction which will be setup along the south wall of the high school gym from 4:30 – 8:00 p.m. that night.

ACHS Military Appreciation Night will be held Friday February 18. Dinner for current and past military members and their immediate families will begin at 5:00. This is also Senior Night. Seniors and their parents will be recognized immediately prior to the girls’ varsity game. Military members will be recognized at halftime of the varsity girls’ game.

The Immaculate Conception Church Altar Sodality will have their annual biscuit and gravy breakfast 8:00 – 10:00 a.m. February 27 in St. Mary’s School basement, 608 Kansas Ave, Montrose.  The menu will be sausage gravy & biscuit, whole hog sausage patty, scrambled eggs, coffee cake, coffee, orange juice or water.  Adults are $10, children 10 and under are $5.  Quilt raffle tickets will be available and will be drawn at the breakfast.

The Carousel that will be installed on Main Street came to AC with the Fair Carnival in 2009-2019. They are looking for pictures of children on that carousel during that time frame. Call 660-476-5857 9:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m. or email acmolampkin@yahoo.com

Zion Lutheran School in Prairie City’s annual Chili supper will be dine in or carry out this year.  The event will take place 5:00 -8:00 p.m. February 26.  The online Facebook Auction begins Wednesday, February 23, the silent auction will be 5:00 – 7:30 February 26 and the live auction at 7:00 p.m. Raffle items and a country store will be available. The Rockville Lions Club will have a pancake & sausage breakfast 8:00 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Sunday March 6, 2022 at the Rockville City Hall. A free will donation will be accepted.

Immaculate Conception Church Lenten Fish Fry Dinners will be served March 4, March 18 and April 1 from 5:00 – 7:30 p.m. in St. Mary’s School Hall, Montrose. They plan to serve carry out and dine-in at this time. (They will adjust as needed for the current conditions.) The menu is fried fish, Suzy Q’s, cole saw, corn bread, cookies and a drink. Adults eat for $12, children under 10 for $6

Grace Christian Academy will have their 2nd annual hog roast dinner with silent and live auctions fundraiser Saturday, March 12 4:00-7:00 p.m. in the Lowry City Civic Center, 4th & Cleveland in Lowry City.  The hog roast dinner for $10 includes meat, sides, dessert and drink. Children 4-12 years eat for $6, 3 and under are free.  Carry out is available.  Silent auction from 4:00 – 6:30 and live auction starts at 7:00 p.m.

DbarJ Quilts etc. of Rockville, Mo will have the Elva Gwinn Huffman Essay Contest once again this year.  To receive a quilt to use in your charitable fund raising, all you have to do is enter an essay telling about your non-profit, its name, who you serve, how you would use the quilt in this endeavor and any other important information you would like them to know. Appleton City High School Alumni will award six $1,000 scholarships, to any type of post-secondary training. DEADLINE is 9:00 a.m. March 8 to the high school counselor.

Butler Varsity Wrestlers head to State

Good luck to the following Butler varsity wrestlers:  Brendin Patrick, Isaac Rodriguez, and Triston Trumbore.  They will be competing in the 2022 State Wrestling Tournament on Feb 17-19 in Columbia, MO.  They will be competing against the top 16 wrestlers in their weight class in Class 1.
