Appleton City: Little Apple

Appleton City First Baptist would like to invite widows of our community to “Young at Heart Widows Event”, a fun day out April 23 at 11:00. They will meet at the church and go to lunch and then go to Powell’s Botanical Gardens in Kingsville. This is a free event. They just ask you RSVP by April 11. On Wednesday, April 27, Hudson R-IX students will entertain with a musical program at 7:00 p.m. in the gym.  Come early and stay late as there will also be a number of student exhibits on display.

The AC Spring City Wide Garage Sale dates are set for April 29 & 30. Permits are $5 and can be purchased at City Hall beginning April 11 – 26. Permits to set up in the AC Park are $25 for the pole shelter, $15 for the stage, $10 for lawn permits & these fees cover both days. Park permits can be purchased at City Hall on a first come, first served basis and cannot be reserved by phone. Maps will be available at Food Fair, Powell’s True Value and Casey’s beginning Thursday afternoon and at Fika beginning Friday morning. House of Joy Ministry will be at the City Park Saturday from 3:00-5:00 to pick up donations. For questions, please call Dianne Foster at 660-679-1125.

In conjunction with the City Wide Garage Sales, County Wide Disposal will have trash containers at the City Barn for big item disposal May 3-5. If you need a big item picked up at your home, you must call County Wide Disposal at 660-679-0717 to request it. There will be a fee for this service.

Hudson R-IX Elementary will hold their annual kindergarten screening on Monday, May 16.  Please call the school at (660) 476-5467 to set up an appointment.  You will need your child’s social security card, birth certificate, and current immunization record.  If you call and the school office is closed, please leave a message and they will get back to you.

The Appleton City Public Library is conducting their Friends of the Best Sellers Program until May 19, 2022. The program’s purpose is to fund the purchase of new hardback books for the library. You can become a friend by either choosing a book from the list or requesting another book you’ve wanted to read and then donating $20.00 for said book. The perks of being a Friend to the library are that you will be the first person to check the book out, and you will be honored by having your name placed on a special nameplate in the front of each of the Library Friend books. Library hours are Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Saturdays, 8:00 a.m. to noon.

The Appleton City Museum will open for its 19th summer season Friday, May 6 from 1:30-4:30. Visiting hours will be every Friday afternoon and the first Saturday of each month May through September. The location is 503 N. Maple, one block north of caution light.  They hope you will make the museum a place to visit this year. Encourage children, family members and friends to step back into time at the Appleton City Museum.
