Remember that March 1 is the deadline to submit your St. Clair County Property Tax Assessment forms without a penalty.  The County Assessor’s office is open 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Zion Lutheran School in Prairie City’s annual Chili supper will be drive through or carry out only this year.  The event will take place 4:30 -7:00 p.m. February 27.  They will serve a bowl of chili or soup, drinks and dessert.  They do ask for a free-will donation.  In addition to the meal, there will be a socially distanced country store, online auctions and raffles. CDI Head Start serving West Central Missouri is now accepting enrollment applications for the 2021-2022 school year for children ages 3-5 for facilities located in Bates, Cass, Cedar, Henry, St. Clair and Vernon Counties. The Montrose Festival is a go for Memorial Weekend 2021. They will be celebrating Montrose’s deep history and traditions throughout the weekend.

Nothing highlights that more than their theme, 150 Years of Cheers, Tears & Beers!   Plans are being finalized but things are looking up and they think everyone needs some old time normal. They will have their yearly Parade, Car Show, Baby Show, Color Run, Exotic Animal Petting, Baking Contest and Chicken Dinner, etc. for your enjoyment plus much more. Some new crowd pleasers for the 150th Celebration will be Wine Tasting, Beer Garden, Pie Auction, Pony Rides, Jr Royalty King & Queen, Beard Contest, Montrose Stamp Cancelation, a visit from KC Wolfe and much more still being finalized. They are also excited to announce performing on Stage under the big tent will be the band Members Only out of Springfield, MO.  So mark your calendar to come see them for the day or the whole darn weekend.  They hope to see you there!

The ACHS Alumni Scholarship Foundation, Inc. will award five $1,000 scholarships, at least one each to a traditional college and one to a vocational/trade school.  There is no grade point requirement. A short paragraph is required.  DEADLINE is March 9.  See the ACHS Counselor.

It is once again time for any non-profit organization to write an essay to possibly win the Elva Gwinn Huffman Quilt contest. Your essay should tell about your group, what you would use the proceeds from this quilt for, and how you would use the quilt to raise the funds. You should send the essay to DbarJ Quilts etc, PO Box 48, Rockville MO 64780.  This year they will accept email submissions at joyce@dbarjquilts.com. Any question may be asked at 660-598-2222 during normal business hours. The drawing will be April 2, so essays should reach them before March 31, 2021.

Your local University of Missouri Extension Center offers a variety of resources for agricultural producers.  Besides the well-known soil tests, they can send off test samples of manure, compost and soil nematodes.  A West Central regional newsletter, “Ag In Focus”, is available for ag producers.  You can receive it by mail by contacting your local West Central Region Extension Center.  Pat Miller, agronomy field specialist for Vernon, Bates, St. Clair, Cass, Jackson and Cedar counties, sends out a weekly e-mail to crop and forage producers.  She also sends out occasional e-mails to commercial vegetable and fruit producers, and nursery, greenhouse and landscaping businesses.  If you would like to receive her mailings, contact her at 417-448-2560 or e-mail her at MillerPD@missouri.edu.
