Business networking and connecting goes beyond just one community. Community Connection Network hosts networking events that travel among area communities. If you’re in business or civic leadership or you have a heart for your community, come meet your neighbors. The event will be 6:30 p.m. Thursday, January 26 at Short Street Tavern in Montrose and is free to attend. It will involve group introductions and a brief presentation.  There will be networking (aka visiting) starting at 6:30 p.m. Presentations are at 7:00 p.m. but it’s more than just visiting.  There will be: introductions all around. Everyone gets a chance for a quick intro to the whole group. Feel free to bring business cards or literature to share  Social Media Q&A with a quick topic, “Why be on LinkedIn and Other Social Platforms”. Bring any burning questions There will also be a Non-profit highlight,  a chance to get to know the services of a non-profit in our host town. Don’t let your friends miss out.  Invite, comment, or tag a friend. Members from ALL area communities are welcome. Food and drink will be available to purchase. Funds are needed for the “Backpack Program”.  The backpacks have kid friendly food that goes home with 25 needy school kids weekly.  Trinity United Methodist Church in Appleton City houses this project, which is funded by community donations.  At this time, with the increase in cost of groceries, they are reaching out for your help. Appleton City Masonic Lodge #412 will have their annual pancake breakfast Sunday, February 12 from 6:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. at the Hall, 219 E. 3rd  St.  Meals are $8 for all you can eat. Children 5 and under eat free. Eat inside or carry out is available.  There will also be raffles for cash prizes.

St. Mary’s School PTO is having a Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser on Saturday, February 4 from 5:00-9:00 p.m. at St. Mary’s School basement in Montrose.  The dinner will consist of spaghetti, breadsticks, salad, dessert, and a drink of tea, coffee, and lemonade.  The dinner is a free will donation.  They will also have a silent auction, 2 basket raffles, Fishing Trip Basket and Blackstone Grill Basket and a 50-50 raffle (the winner will receive 50% of total 50-50 raffle sales).  The drawings will be held at the dinner on February 4.  If you are interested in buying raffle tickets, please contact St. Mary’s School at 660-693-4502.  The basket raffle tickets are 1 for $5 or 5 for $20, and the 50-50 raffle tickets are 1 for $1 or 6 for $5. 

The Knights of Columbus will have their monthly pancake and sausage breakfast at the Knight’s Hall in Montrose on Sunday, February 5 from 8:30 – 10:00 a.m.  Treat your family to a hot breakfast you don’t have to cook or clean up.  A free will donation will be greatly appreciated

Golden Apples is an over 50 social club that promotes the well-being of senior citizens in the cities of Appleton City, Montrose and Rockville, Missouri. Golden Apples was formed to address the issues of isolation and food security in this underserved rural area. You are invited to join them each Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. for dinner and bingo (with lots of prizes). January 25 has been cancelled. February 1 they will meet at Hickory Court.

The AC School District is excited to host a Teacher Recruitment Night 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. February 9, 2023 at the Appleton City High School, 408 W. 4th St, Appleton City, MO 64724. (In case of inclement weather, it will be rescheduled to February 13.)  Right now, 11 schools are planning to attend to meet and network with individuals interested in becoming teachers or working in a school setting. More schools may be added closer to the event. Please make plans to attend this event and meet/network with area school districts. Districts across the area are looking for teachers, counselors, librarians, paraprofessionals, substitutes, and more. Dinner will be catered by the Appleton City BBQ Team. Montrose VFW Post 8820 is sponsoring their 7th Annual Montrose VFW Post 8820 Coyote Tournament March 3-5, 2023. Registration is 6:00 p.m. March 3, 2023. Check-in is March 5 at 3:00 p.m. sharp at the Montrose VFW Hall. Entry fee is $100.00 per team and there will be a $5 side pot for mangiest dog. There is a maximum of three people on a team. Coyotes may be taken by all legal methods as defined by the Missouri Dept. of Conservation. There is a cash payout for 1st, 2nd, 3rd places and the biggest dog.  All participants will be entered to win door prizes and a Heritage Barkeep 22LR Revolver. It is once again time for any non-profit organization to write an essay to possibly win the Elva Gwinn Huffman Quilt contest. Your essay should

tell about your group, what you would use the proceeds from this quilt for, and how you would use the quilt to raise the funds.  You should send the essay to DbarJ Quilts etc, PO Box 48, Rockville MO 64780.  This year they will accept email submissions at joyce@dbarjquilts.com. Any question may be asked at 660-598-2222 during normal business hours.  The drawing will be on April 2 so they must have your entry by March 31, 2021.
