Appleton City’s Annual Apple Festival, Saturday, September 28th

The AC Apple Festival will take place 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Saturday, September 28 at Forest Park (City Park).  Activities for the Apple Festival include the following:

Calling all bakers! Consider an entry in Apple Showdown Bake Off Competition held in conjunction with the other events at the AC Apple Festival.  Three divisions for the competition include pies (including tarts), breads and muffins, and cakes and rolls. All entries must be homemade. There will be a first place prize awarded to the three division winners.  Each division winner will win a $25 Food Fair gift card.  One Best in Show winner will be awarded and winner will receive a $50 Food Fair gift card. Entries must be dropped off between 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 28. Judging will commence at 10:15 a.m. and winners will be announced at 12:15 p.m. on the main stage in Forest Park. Entry forms will be available on the AC Apple Festival Facebook page; as well available for pickup in Food Fair; Davis Duo Design and City Hall.

All children, ages 4 – 6 years of age, may pre-register for Little Mr. and Miss Apple Dumpling Pageant on the AC Apple Festival FB page by private message with name, age and gender or by contacting Jina Hill at 816-518-7512.  Children are asked to incorporate something red into their outfit.  They will each be asked three questions on the main stage in Forest Park, beginning at 10:30 a.m.  All registrants must be checked in by 10:20 a.m. The winning Little Mr. and Little Miss will each receive a $50 cash prize!  Don’t be bashful!  Your little one could be AC’s next Little Dumpling.

Win money for your organization!  The AC Apple Festival is looking for non-profit groups to participate in their Hard Core Eater’s Apple Pie competition at 12:05 p.m. on Saturday, September 28.  Winner receives a $200 donation for their sponsoring organization. Youngsters between kindergarten and 5th grade from the surrounding area schools may enter their granny into a competition as the Best Granny around! Children are asked to write an essay on why their grandmother is the best around.  Forms were sent home to elementary students and they can also be found on the AC Apple Festival Facebook page.  Writing divisions include K-1, 2-3, and 4-5. They are due back to respective participating schools by September 24.

Pre-register to participate in the lip sync contest at Davis Duo Designs with Shelley Davis by Friday, September 27.  Competition will begin at 12:30 p.m. on the main stage at Forest Park during the AC Apple Festival.  $250 in cash prizes to be awarded to winners!

Apple Peeling Contest will be at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 28, to the side of the stage in Forest Park and is open to all individuals 14 years of age and older. Participants will need to sign-up at the registration table anytime up until 2:50 p.m.  There is no entry fee.   Each participant will be provided with the knife.  All knives will be identical.  Contestants will compete in two different divisions, Longest Continuous Apple Peeling done in one minute or less (no peeling less than six inches will be counted and Most Amount of Apples Peeled in two minutes. All apples will be provided. Judging will be conducted by an independent panel of judges. The judges’ decisions will be final.  The winning individual in each division will win a $25 cash prize. 

The Appleton City FFA is sponsoring a corn hole tournament at 1:00 p.m. at the north side of Forest Park.  Registration begins at 12:30 p.m. Cost is $25/team, with double elimination play.  Proceeds will benefit students in Appleton City FFA. 

Kickin’ Chicken Dinner to benefit Ellett Memorial Hospital EMH Foundation will be held in conjunction with the Apple Festival.  Serving will begin at 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in the community building.  One can pre-purchase tickets at the front desk at Ellett Memorial Hospital at a price of $8 for adults and $6 for children ages 4-12, 3 and under are free.  There are 210 pre-sale tickets available.  Get yours early!  Tickets purchased at the door will be $10 for adults, $8 for children and may be in limited quantities.     

Community members who are 21 years or older may come participate in the wine tasting event that will be held on the east side of the park from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m.  A $10 cover charge will allow entrance.  Six Missouri wineries and one wine by-product company will be represented.  Come out to enjoy a fun evening with friends.  For every three bottles of wine purchased, each participant will be entered into a drawing for prizes, include cash prizes and wine tastings!
