On May 4th, at approximately 10:30 am, the Bates County Sheriffs Office recieved a call in reference to the storm damaging a house. The storm had downed a tree into a home in rural Butler. Bates County Sheriff’s Deputies along with Butler Fire, Amsterdam Fire and the Bates County EMS responded to the scene. Additional equipment was requested from chainsaws to a large excavator. Sutton Construction Company of Butler responded with an excavator to assist in the rescue efforts. The incident resulted in one fatality. Until family of the deceased has been notified the name will not be released.
Bates County Coroner, Greg D. Mullinax has since identified the decedent as 71 year old Joan D. Powell of Adrian Missouri.
