BATES COUNTY MEMORIAL HOSPITAL PARTNERS WITH COMMUNITY BLOOD CENTER FOR URGENT BLOOD DRIVE

BUTLER, Mo. – Community Blood Center (CBC) continues to experience a critically low blood supply and Bates County Memorial Hospital is stepping in to help. The pandemic has created a chronic deficit between current blood donations and what is needed by hospitals nation-wide. To help bridge this gap, Bates County Memorial Hospital invites the public to make a life-saving blood donation on Wednesday, December 1.

In order to maintain a safe and stable blood supply, a seven-day inventory of all blood types must be continually replenished. Right now, reserves are well below that minimum. “We thought we’d see our local blood supply recover with the return of school blood drives in the fall, but continued fears surrounding the pandemic are presenting significant obstacles,” said Patsy Shipley, Executive Director of Community Blood Center. A robust blood supply is essential for our healthcare system to function and we must do everything we can to strengthen it at this time of uncertainty.”

The blood drive will be held at the BCMH Education Center on Wednesday, December 1 from 12 pm – 5 pm. All presenting donors will receive a free limited-edition Chiefs t-shirt. Face coverings are required, and appointments are strongly encouraged; walk-ins will only be accepted if capacity allows. Appointments can be made online at savealifenow.org/group and enter Group Code: KCBS, or call 1-877-468-6844.

Donating blood is safe and it only takes one hour. We are taking extra precautions to help prevent the person-to-person spread of COVID-19. All donors and CBC staff are required to wear a face covering and staff are practicing health self-assessments prior to presenting at work. As always, people are not eligible to donate if they’re experiencing a cold, sore throat, respiratory infection or flu-like symptoms. Additional information on donor eligibility and COVID-19 precautions is available here.
