From the desk of Bates County Sheriff Anderson.
Sheriff Anderson has received numerous calls and questions in reference to this letter sent to the FBI from the Missouri Attorney General in regards to CCW files that the Missouri Sheriffs are responsible for. This stemmed from a CJIS (criminal justice information service) compliance audit.
Sheriff Anderson wants to assure you that his office and its members are some of the biggest supporters of the 2nd Amendment and have taken oaths to protect those rights.
Missouri law strictly prohibits the sharing of any CCW permit information in the possession of Missouri Sheriff’s. The Bates County Sheriff’s Office will ensure those files are secure and are in compliance with state statute.
Sheriff Anderson also received an email from the local FBI office aware of the controversy and assured Sheriffs that this audit is compliant with CJIS standards and no records of CCW will be requested by auditors.
Bates County Sheriff Anderson hopes this clears up any information or questions you should have about the security of your CCW information here in Bates County.
He believes his stance on this issue has been clear through his actions in the past by offering free CCW class and even permits. Sheriff Anderson strongly believes the only thing that can stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.
