Smokin’ in the Electric City: First Annual BBQ Competition Co-Sponsored by Bates County Community Health Foundation and Bates County Fair Board
The Bates County Community Health Foundation is pleased to announce its partnership with the Bates County Fair to sponsor the first annual Smokin’ in the Electric City BBQ Competition. The competition will be located at the Bates County Fair Grounds in Butler, Mo., and will take place during fair week. All barbeque events for Smokin’ in the Electric City will take place on July 13 -15, 2023.
Smokin’ in the Electric City is part of a “Triple Crown Event” for the state of Missouri. Each event benefits local fundraisers in their communities. Proceeds from the Smokin’ in the Electric City BBQ will be donated to the BCCHF to benefit the Proposed Regional Activity Center.
What does Triple Crown mean? The Professional Chefs that compete in these KCBS-sanctioned events will receive more points towards attending the Royal. The championship will be determined by taking each team’s highest three total scores from the three events. The advantage would be to cook all three events to win the overall Triple Crown Championship.
The following is a tentative schedule and dates are subject to change:
- Thursday, July 13: Official KCBS Judging Class and Table Captain class to be held at the Bates County Fair grounds
- Friday, July 14: A Rib Challenge anyone can sign up to compete. KCBS teams will receive points for the rib category. For the KCBS Backyard BBQ Competition, we invite you to put your BBQ up against some of the best! The Backyard BBQ Competition will consist of two meats: chicken and ribs.
- Saturday, July 15: Kicks off the Official KCBS Sanctioned event. A dinner to benefit BCCHF will be held on Saturday evening.
