BCMH Welcomes Registered Dietitian-Nutritionist Kerri Cannon

BUTLER, Mo. – Kerri Cannon, RN, RD, LD joined the Bates County Memorial Hospital staff this spring, and wears several “hats” at the hospital: as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, a Diabetes Educator, and a Registered Nurse.

Cannon obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition from the University of Central Missouri in 1999. She has certification in weight management through the American Dietetic Association. After completing an internship at Iowa State University, Cannon worked for North Kansas City Hospital from 2001-2006. During those years at NKCH, she conducted inpatient/outpatient diet counseling, cardiac rehab, developed and facilitated an employee wellness program, and helped start and facilitate a childhood obesity program called Shape Down. Kerri has also presented at the American Heart Association “Go Red for Women”.

After spending a few years to be home with her children when they were young, Kerri re-entered the workforce as a Fitness Director, Exercise Instructor and Personal Trainer at the YMCA in Nevada, Mo. Wanting to broaden her career horizon, she went back to school and received her RN from Crowder College in December 2017.

Kerri enjoys serving patients whether she’s wearing her RN “hat”, or meeting with patients for nutrition counseling. She also facilitates the hospital’s Diabetic Support Group, which meets every third Thursday of the month, and addresses a different topic each month. In July, for instance, the topic is Hearing Loss and Diabetes Management. The Wright Audiology Group will give a short presentation and will also offer free screenings.
