Belton Substitute Teacher Held Without Bond Facing Multiple Felony Counts

On September 19, 2022, a Belton Police School Resource Officer received information from a student regarding inappropriate social media messages and videos received by the student from a substitute teacher.

 This officer, along with members of the Belton Police Investigations Division and with cooperation from their partners in the Belton School District, began an investigation which uncovered additional victims.  In the early morning hours of September 21, 2022, the suspect was detained by the Bates County Sheriff’s Office as a person of interest in this case.  The suspect was extradited back to the Belton Jail at that time.

 Also on September 21, 2022, the Cass County Prosecutor’s Office filed the following charges against 42-year-old Jason L. Carey:

Enticement or Attempted Enticement of a Child – Felony

Child Molestation 2nd Degree – Felony

2 Counts of Furnishing Pornographic Material or Attempt to Furnish Pornographic Material to a Minor – Misdemeanor

Carey is currently being held without bond in the Cass County Jail.

Although charges have been filed, this continues to be an ongoing investigation and additional charges may be filed as more information is obtained.

Two Counts – Enticement Or Attempted Enticement Of A Child (Actor 21 Yrs Of Age Or Older And Child Less Than 15 Yrs Of Age) {Felony Unclassified}

Two Counts – Child Molestation – 2nd Degree -Child Less Than 12 Years of age {Felony B}

Four Counts – Furnish Pornographic Material Or Attempt To Furnish To A Minor {Misdemeanor A}

One Count – Stalking – 1st Degree – 1st Offense {Felony E}

One Count – Statutory Sodomy – 2nd Degree {Felony C}

Two Counts – Promoting Child Pornography 1st Degree {Felony B}

Carey is currently being held without bond in the Cass County Jail.
