Big Success, Bates County Coats for Kids, Thank You

Individuals who contributed to this year’s Bates County Coats for Kids project were eligible to win one of  three (3) prizes in the drawing held Dec. 14 at the DSWA Certified Public Accountants office in Butler.

First prize, a Roku Ultra streaming TV attachment, went to Paul and Kay Cummings of Amsterdam;  second prize, $50 in cash from DSWA, went to Carolyn Kimminau of  Adrian;

and the third prize, a $25 gift card to the Wine Journal in Adrian, went to Marylyn Engelhart of  Butler.

In spite of  all the challenges due to COVID-19, the Coats for Kids campaign was remarkably

successful this year.  Individuals and businesses and organizations dug deep and gave generously, to be sure that more than two hundred (200) young people from pre-school through high school across Bates County had new warm coats or jackets in time for the winter cold.

Sponsors Larry and Carol Ann Winburn partner with DSWA CPAs each fall to collect contri- butions and nominations, purchase and package brand-new coats, and then make sure each deserving child gets a coat or jacket that fits.  The sponsors thank the school nurses and teachers who help provide names and sizes, then take delivery and distribute the coats.  Of course, the Winburns and DSWA are always deeply grateful to all of you who provide the funds to make the project possible.

Bates Countians seem to come together every year in the spirit of  giving and caring.  More than  200 kids say “thank you” with their smiles, as compassion wins big-time over need.
