Burglary Investigation in Linn County, KS

On May 6, 2023, the Linn County Sheriff’s Office took a burglary report in rural Pleasanton, Ks.
at the Holiday Lakes sub-division.
A suspect was developed, and Deputies were seeking the suspect, Megan N. Short. On May 7,
2023, another burglary was reported. Ms. Short was suspected of this burglary as well. Deputies
continued the search for Ms. Short.
Again, on May 7, 2023, while investigating the previous burglary a report was made that a
subject was in a home as the residents returned home from an outing. The suspect fled through a
back window in the home and ran into the wooded area. The suspect ran to a home where she
was staying in the subdivision. Deputies responded to the home and the suspect fled from the
home through a back window where a Deputy was awaiting her as she attempted to flee. Megan
N. Short was taken into custody.
Ms. Short was secured in the Linn County Jail where she later appeared in Court and was
charged with Burglary and Attempted Burglary. More charges are pending. Ms. Short is held on
a bond of $7,500. Ms. Short will remain in Jail until she is able to secure bond, her preliminary
hearing is scheduled on May 22, 2023, in the Linn County District Court.
It should be noted that Ms. Short was arrested by the Ft. Scott Police Department on April 2,
2023, for Aggravated Burglary, Criminal Deprivation of Property, Theft of Property, and 4
warrants from Bourbon County for failure to appear in court. Ms. Short is out on bond in that
case.
