First Annual BBQ Competition Sponsored by the Bates County Community Health Foundation with the Bates County Fair Board
The Bates County Community Health Foundation (BCCHF) is pleased to announce its partnership with the Bates County Fair to sponsor the first annual Smokin’ in the Electric City BBQ Competition. The event will be located at the Bates County Fair and will take place during fair week. All BBQ events for Smokin’ in the Electric City will take place on July 13 -16, 2023.
Smokin’ in the Electric City is part of a “Triple Crown Event” for the State of Missouri. Each event benefits local fundraisers in their communities. Proceeds from the Smokin’ in the Electric City BBQ will be donated to the BCCHF to benefit and raise awareness for the Proposed Regional Activity Center.
What does Triple Crown mean? The Professional Chefs that compete in these KCBS-sanctioned events will receive more points towards attending the Royal. The championship will be determined by taking each team’s highest three total scores from the three events. The advantage would be to cook all three events to win the overall Triple Crown Championship.
The second event for the Triple Crown will be Smokin’ on the Osage in Osceola Mo., taking place on July 21-23. Learn more.
The third and Final event will be Boo-B-Que held in Lees Summit, Mo., October 29-31, and triple crown winners will be announced at this event. Learn more.

The Dessert Category and Kids Q will be open to the public. Those entering the dessert category are requested to make an extra dessert to be used for a Benefit Auction for the Proposed Regional Activity Center. This auction will follow the awards ceremony, starting around 5 pm.
