The Butler Bears Track Team had 4 athletes travel to Jefferson City May 29 and May 30th for the Class 3 State Meet.
To start the day, Jaxon Hiser competed in the Pole Vault. The Bears were a little nervous to start because the opening height was 11′ 5″, which was 5″ higher than Jaxon’s personal best. He was unable to clear the first attempt, but then came through and got it on his second attempt! From there it went up 6 inches, which he was not able to clear, but it was a great finish to the season for him getting a new PR and taking 14th place overall!
Our next event was Matthew Zent in the 110m Hurdles. Matthew ran a 17.34. While that was not his best, he did end up in 15th place overall. He showed in improvement all season long, which got him to the state meet and will undoubtedly lead to more success next year!
At 3:00, Butler had our last 2 athletes competing at the same time in 2 different events.
Taitlyn Madison was up in the Long Jump. Her first jump was not great at 15′ 7.5″. Her second jump was a foul, but the coach is sure it would have been her best of the day. Her third jump improved to 16′ 4″ which moved her up the leaderboard. Then on her final jump, she hit a career PR of 16′ 10″ and earned her 3rd Place and an All-State medal!! She was 4 inches behind 2nd place and 8 inches behind 1st.
The Butler Bears Track team rounded out the day back at Pole Vault with Annalee Gardner. Annalee came in at 10′ and cleared it with ease. She followed that by clearing 10′ 6″. When it went up to 11′, she did her best, but was unable to get over the height. She was disappointed in this after having cleared 11′ 4″ last week, but she still earned 5th place and an All-State medal which Butler could not be prouder of.
All 4 of these athletes are underclassmen, which means they will all look to achieve even higher goals next season!
As the Butler Bears Track Team wrap up the season, Coach Barnes wanted to point out a few awards that athletes earned at their banquet this past week.
