Butler Bears Track Travel to Pomme De Terre

The Butler Bears traveled to Pomme de Terre dam in Hermitage on Saturday, September 25th to run a dam race. While the Bears are still fighting injuries, they saw a lot of dam personal records, a couple of dam medals (see the picture of the dam medals), and two dam school records broken.

In the girls’ varsity race, the Bears were back in team form with 5 of their 7 runners available to score some points. 1st was 44 points, Lady Bears scored 60 (lowest score wins). Olivia Dowell got 8th place with a new personal record of 22:58, a whopping 11 seconds away from Ryenne Gepford’s dam course record. Annalee Gardner got her first race in for the season and even after getting pushed down during the race, she wasn’t far from earning a medal in 29th. Cadence Turney, Brielle Campbell and Jakaila Rolph rounded out the pack all earning either course or career personal records.

In the boy’s race, the Bears were low on numbers due to injuries and band competitions. Jerrun Kennedy ran a solid race with a 20:51, but Andrew Clutter claimed it was an “easy” course after he career personal record by almost 2 minutes with a 22:56.

On to Junior High races where the fog was gone, and the heat was rising. In the boy’s race, Brandon Hammett just wanted to be under 12:30. He ran 11:57. That broke the dam school course record by 3 minutes and 18 seconds… and the Junior High overall school record in the XC 2 mile by 1 minute 58 seconds. Hammett got 1st place in his division for the second meet in a row. (11th overall out of 233 runners, classes 1-5). For the girls, Mika Vice really wanted to beat her best friend’s course record and get a medal but was just barely off getting both while still running a great race. Natalee Kennedy said she just didn’t want to get last…she got 28th out of 64 in her division (101st overall out of 174 for all JH runners) and broke 20 minutes for the first time with a 18:42.

Overall, The Bears have really shown some great improvement over the last week. Can’t wait to see what’s in store this week. Tuesday, September 28th the Bears travel to Lamar and Saturday, October 2nd is at Grain Valley.
