The Butler High School XC team traveled to MO Western University in St. Joseph to compete in the Class 2 District 4 meet. To advance on to State you have to be in the top 30 individuals or top 4 teams. We had absolutely perfect weather for this meet. Rarely can you say that about this time of year. Some of the runners had a great day with personal records while others struggled but fought through to the finish.
The Butler boys were up first. Jerrun Kennedy hadn’t raced in almost a month due to an injury. He struggled to overcome said injury and finished in 95th with a 24:45. Leading the way for the Butler boys was Andrew Clutter who finished in 72nd with a 22:15 which is a big personal record for him. Falling in between Andrew and Jerrun was Senior Richard Walker. He ran a 23:33 in 86th place. None of the Butler boys advance on, but they worked hard on a season to be proud of.
For only the 3rd time this season, Butler has enough girls to score a team. Leading the way for the Butler girls was Olivia Dowell. She finished in 24th with a 22:56 and qualified for state! After Olivia was Cadence Turney running an almost 2-minute personal record for the season with a 26:05 in 50th place. She was followed by Brielle Campbell with a 28:34 in 67th, Annalee Gardner with a 28:55 in 70th who was fighting through some pretty serious knee pain, and Senior Jakaila Rolph with a 32:23 in 82nd. The girls team placed 9th overall.
With this Butler team say goodbye to 2 4-year seniors, Jakaila Rolph and Richard Walker (see picture). While they may have never been the front runners, they were a joy to have on the team and see them become better runners and amazing people. Butler XC will miss them next year.
Olivia Dowell advances on to State in Columbia which will take place Saturday, November 6 at Noon!! Look for more results in the future.
