Butler Presbyterian and St. Matthew Lutheran Churches Host “Longest Night Service”/December 20

The Butler Presbyterian and St. Matthew Lutheran churches are coming together to host a “Longest Night Service” on Wednesday, December 20th beginning at 5:30pm at 201 W. Atkinson Avenue in Butler.

For some people the Christmas season is full of joy and anticipation, parties and celebrations. But for others, the Christmas season is a time of sorrow and anxiety, isolation and grieving, busy-ness and exhaustion.

The Christmas season presents difficulties for people who are dealing with loss—loss of a loved one, loss of a marriage, loss of a way of life, loss of a job, loss of a dream, loss of a relationship, loss of energy. If you find yourself experiencing any of these losses or emotions, you may find a “Longest Night Service” as a soothing balm, an oasis of quiet and rest in the midst of a difficult season.

In this season when it feels like darkness and cold have the upper hand, we will come together to name what shadows us, and we will bring light into that darkness. We will come together to sing, to pray, and to hear God’s Word of hope.

Anyone who is facing loss in this season…anyone who is overwhelmed with the busyness of this season…anyone who needs a time to “be still” in God’s presence during this season is invited to attend this Longest Night Service.

All are welcome.

If you have any questions, you can contact Reverend Mari Lyn Jones at 660-679-3933 or Reverend Chris Deines at 660-679-4049.
