Butler: Private Message Facebook Scam

A rural Butler resident shares a private message scam with the community through the 92.1 Radio Station.  On Wednesday morning December 1st, a private message was sent through Facebook to the elderly mother of a Butler resident.

The request was asking for money from a cousin.  The  Facebook account was created in the name of Agent Jerry Scott and a message was sent to a Butler resident stating that a cousin needed
money and the funds could be sent through a private link provided in the private message.

This was found to be a scam when the cousin was contacted, and no such private message had been sent from the relative.

We remind the young and old, that Facebook can be your friend or the devil. Be aware that scams do happen and never send money or share your personal information through Facebook.
