Care Connection for Aging Services has joined the nation’s “Month of Action” in June by redoubling efforts to help older adults find a place to receive the COVID-19 vaccination.
The U.S. administration has declared June the “Month of Action” as it pushes for 70 percent of adult Americans to have at least one COVID-19 vaccine by the Fourth of July.
Since earlier this year, Care Connection has partnered with the state Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) to help older adults register online for vaccinations and to coordinate transportation to and from their vaccination appointments. The agency also will conduct reminder calls for seniors’ second doses.
People 60 and older and their caregivers who need vaccine registration assistance still may call Care Connection at 1-800-748-7826.
About 63 percent of American adults have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine. In Missouri, 42 percent of the population has received one dose, and 34 percent of the state’s population has been fully vaccinated. That number goes up to about 63 percent of Missourians in the 60-plus age group.
“We are happy that a large percentage of those 60 and older have received their vaccines, but we are ready to assist those who have not received the shots,” said Diana Hoemann, Executive Director of Care Connection. “In our 13 West Central Missouri counties, older adults trust Care Connection as a resource. We as an agency also believe that the vaccinations will lead to the opening of more and more of our 21 locations and help us deliver services face to face. That’s also an important reason for us to offer the guidance older adults may need to receive COVID-19 vaccinations.”
All Americans ages 12 and older are eligible for vaccinations, which are being offered in pharmacies, health departments, primary care physicians and in clinics. Care Connection can help homebound individuals arrange for a vaccinator to visit homes as well.
Care Connection is a non-profit area agency on aging serving these counties: Bates, Benton, Carroll, Cedar, Chariton, Henry, Hickory, Johnson, Lafayette, Pettis, Saline, St. Clair, and Vernon.
