Cass County Deputies Respond to a Call in Garden City, Leading to an Officer Involved Shooting

On Monday, June 7th, at approximately 1539 hours, Cass County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the 300 block of Lake Road, Garden City for a welfare check. 

Upon their arrival to the residence, deputies observed a female on the front porch of the residence with a firearm in her hand.  Cass County Deputies gave numerous commands to drop the weapon, however as the female pointed the firearm at the deputies, one deputy fired his service pistol, striking the female in the torso.   

The female was transported by Garden City Emergency Services with critical injuries to a local hospital for medical treatment.

The Western Missouri Sheriff’s Office Critical Response Team, composed of deputies from Cass, Henry, and Bates counties, are investigating the shooting. 

In an update to this story: The female involved in the welfare check has passed away as a result from her injuries.
