Two People In Custody Following Pursuit of Stolen Car

Cass Co – Around 7:00 pm Tuesday night deputies with the Cass County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Apprehension Unit located a stolen vehicle used in an armed robbery in Jackson County.

Deputies attempted to stop the vehicle, a 2011 Ford Fusion, near Anaconda Road and Clearwater in Harrisonville.  When the deputy activated his emergency lights and siren the driver accelerated at a high rate of speed west on Anaconda Road refusing to stop.

The pursuit continued for nearly 30 minutes on gravel roads and highways near Freeman and Drexel before deputies were able to get the vehicle stopped.  At times, the pursuit reached speeds over 100 mph.  The pursuit ended at E 331st and Lacy Road east of Drexel where deputies deployed tire deflation devices.

The driver and passenger were taken into custody without further incident.

The driver is identified as, Christopher L. Vanalst, 28, Harrisonville.  He has been charged with E Felony Resisting Arrest, D Felony Tampering with a Motor Vehicle and E Felony Driving While Revoked.  Bond is set at $7500.00 Cash Only

The passenger, Javier M. Morales, 28, Harrisonville, was charged with A Misd Tampering with Motor Vehicle 2nd Degree and D Misd Possession of Marijuana, with a Signature (ROR) bond issued.

“We are pleased that this incident ended without anyone in our community being injured.  Through the cooperation of multiple agencies our deputies were able to recover the victim’s vehicle and take more wanted criminals off the street,” said Sheriff Jeff Weber.
