Celebrating Missouri Statehood Day at the MO Capitol – August 10

Dear Citizens: Missouri will commemorate two hundred years of Missouri History on Tuesday, August 10, Missouri Statehood Day.  I hope citizens in our 126th District will join in the fun.

MO Capitol activities will begin Monday, August 9th with the dedication of the new Bicentennial Bridge located on the north side of the Capitol building in Jefferson City, exhibits in the Capitol and Supreme Court tours.

Tuesday, August 10 will include a formal ceremony recognizing the Missouri Bicentennial on the front steps of the Missouri State Capitol Building from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.   A United States Naturalization Ceremony will be held from 10:45 a.m. -11:45 a.m. in the Capitol.  Exhibits are planned throughout the Capitol and an ice cream social will be held at the Central Dairy parking lot with free “Birthday Cake” flavored sundaes to the first 200 in line.

Around our 126th Legislative District:  The Vernon County Historical Society, in cooperation with the Nevada/Vernon County Chamber of Commerce, will host an ice cream social and entertainment on Tuesday, August 10, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on the south side of the Vernon County Courthouse in Nevada. Free ice cream from the Ice Cream Factory in Eldon, MO, cupcakes, and music will be provided in honor of Missouri’s 200th birthday!  The NHS Cheerleaders will be selling hotdogs, chips, and drinks.  The Vernon County Courthouse Lawn is located at 100 W. Cherry Street, Nevada, Missouri 64772 and events will be on the south side of the lawn.  For more details, contact the Bushwhacker Museum at 417-667-9602.

Bates County will celebrate Missouri’s 200th anniversary with a “Missouri Bicentennial Party on the Porch”, Tuesday, August 10, 2021, at 7 p.m. at the Bates County Museum, 802 Elks Drive, Butler, Missouri 64730.  They will also celebrate Harmony Mission’s 200th, Bates County’s 180th, the 160th anniversary of the start of the Civil War, and the 60th anniversary of the Bates County Museum.
