Fire Prevention Week will be held Sunday, October 6th through Sunday, October 12th and the theme is “Not every hero wears a cape. Plan and Practice your Escape!”
In a fire, seconds count. Seconds can mean the difference between residents escaping safely from a fire or having their lives end forever.
The National Fire Protection Association encourages everyone to:
- Draw a map of your home by using their grid at www.firepreventionweek.org to mark 2 exits from each room and a path to outside from each exit
- Practice your home fire drill twice a year
- Teach children how to escape on their own in case parents cannot help them
- Make sure your home is clearly marked so the fire department can find it
Remember, if you are in a fire to close doors behind you as you leave. This will slow the spread of smoke, heat and fire. Also, once you are outside, stay outside. Never go back inside a burning building for anything. No object is worth your life.
