The City of Harrisonville Emergency Services Department will continue the testing of its storm sirens on the third Wednesday of each month.
Tests are scheduled for 1 p.m., pending weather conditions.
In May of 2018, the city of Harrisonville returned to testing the sirens on a monthly basis.
Harrisonville Fire Chief and Emergency Services Director Eric Myler said it had been some time since the city tested the sirens on a monthly basis. He says his staff thought it was necessary to run the monthly checks to make sure all systems are working properly.
Harrisonville Sirens will be allowed to run for a full three-minute cycle and then should automatically cancel. Any failures in the system will be noted so repairs can be made.
If severe weather is occurring or forecast for Harrisonville on the test day, the test will be cancelled and rescheduled for the following month.
The department encourages all those living in the Harrisonville area to use the tests as an opportunity to practice a severe-weather emergency plan. Conduct a dry run of what you would need and where you would need to go. And always remember to stay weather aware.
