HATS students win competition earning a Grant

Seventh grade HATS (Harrisonville Academically Talented) students won first place in a video regional competition. The Heartland Utilities for Energy Efficiency sponsors the grant contest for schools every year. The students won a $3,000 grant to spend on an energy-related project at school or in the community.

The Harrisonville HATS class wrote, directed, filmed, and edited a public service announcement about energy efficiency and conservation and submitted it in early April. Winners were announced May 4 at a ceremony on Zoom.

This is the second time a group of seventh graders from the Harrisonville Middle School HATS class have won. The students, who are now sophomores at HHS, won in 2018 and used the funds to install a solar charging station at Memorial Stadium.

Students in the class include FRONT ROW: Mia Jackson, Annie Rhoney, Brecken Sullivan, and Shelbie Anderson, and BACK ROW: Ayden Cunningham, Ben Wooten, Ethan Hiser, Alden Davis, Austin Eng, Garrett Parris, and Brayden Johnson.
