It is with deep sadness and
heartfelt regret that we announce the passing of K-9 Lutz on Wednesday evening,
at 8:13 p.m., October 23rd, 2019, at Blue Pearl Animal Hospital in
Overland Park, Kansas, the result of Stage 4 Lymphoma within internal organs.
Lutz was a 10 ½ year-old male Belgian Malinois born in Costa Rica, that was
trained by Lafollette K-9 Training Center in Strafford, Missouri, in drug
detection and had been in service with the Henry County Sheriff’s Office since March,
2011. His handler was Major Rob Hills.
Lutz was just weeks away from his “official” retirement from the Sheriff’s
Office, as which time he was going to reside with Major Hills and enjoy “the
retired life.” Lutz was always full of
energy and enthusiasm up until his final days, when the progressive disease
began to cause many health issues and he had to undergo hospitalization. Lutz will not only by missed by Major Hills,
but also by his fellow deputies and the community for which he graciously
served for 8 ½ years.
