On September 02, 2021 at 3:21pm, the Linn County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call stating a pick up truck and motorcycle had crashed at Kansas Highway 7 and Kansas Highway 152.
Initial injuries were reported to occupants of the motorcycle, the injuries appeared to be serious involving head trauma and compound fractures of extremities. Linn County Sheriff’s Deputies, Linn County Fire and American Medical Response were all dispatched to the scene. Emergency responders soon arrived on the scene of the crash and assessed the situation, confirming the seriousness of the injuries. An air ambulance was dispatched at that time to begin its travel to Linn County to assist with the scene and transport. Emergency responders began treating patients at the scene and learned that a citizen(s) / passerby(s) had already started treatment of an occupant of the motorcycle. The occupant was bleeding badly and the citizens without hesitation noticed this trauma and reacted. The citizens performed a life saving maneuver securing a tourniquet to the occupant to control bleeding, they used a belt and a stick to stop the loss of blood, tying off the occupants upper leg. This action most likely saved the life of the crash victim.
The crash is still under investigation by Linn County Deputies and will be complete in the next few days where more information will be available.
