Little Apple: News from Appleton City

ACHS Homecoming activities Friday September 28 include the parade 2:30 p.m. (Line up for the parade at 2:00 p.m. at the School.) The football game against NW Hughesville will begin 7:00 p.m. Coronation of the Homecoming Queen and Princess will take place during halftime. The dance will be held in the east gym immediately following the game.

Mark your calendar for a community-wide Block Party to be hosted by First Baptist Church in Appleton City. On Saturday, September 21 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. there will be family friendly games, food (hot dogs, chips, snow-cones), entertainment and more outside of the church. Activities include a cake walk, bounce house, Kan-Jam, 9 Square, bingo, ball toss, and horseshoes. Plan to attend this fun, community oriented, family friendly event. 

Large item clean-up will be September 24, 25, 26.  Large dumpsters will be located at the Public Works Building, 110 S. Maple (across from the swimming pool).  You will be responsible for getting your items into the roll-off containers.  There will be 2 20 yard roll-off containers for appliances, TVs, computers and monitors available and 1 30 yard roll-off container will be available for sofas, carpets and other approved wastes.  No tires, liquid paint, batteries, motor oils, concrete, cleaning solvents or yard waste can be accepted.

Ellett Memorial Hospital Foundation is sponsoring the Kickin’ Chicken Dinner at the Apple Festival, Saturday, September 28, 2019 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.   Advanced tickets are available for $8 adults, $6 kids 4-12 and kids 3 and under are free. Price goes up $2 at door.   Get your tickets from any Foundation Board member, Leroy Swopes, Robbie Rotert, Bill Brownsberger, Julee Snyder, Laura Smith, April Spencer, Paul Noble, Chris Green, Denice Nitchals or at the Hospital.  Call Julee at 660-476-5216 with any questions.

Appleton City Sesquicentennial Historic Fashion Show will take place in June, 2020. The fashion show committee is looking for authentic historic clothing and accessories from all decades and categories covering the past 150 years. Anyone interested in learning to knit or furthering their skills is welcome to come to the Appleton City Library on Tuesday mornings at 10:00 a.m. for a new club. Ann Barclay will lead the group which will begin on September 24. If you have materials, feel free to bring them. One beginner project calls for size 8 knitting needles and cotton yarn such as Peaches ‘n Cream. Come and see what you can learn! For more information call the library at 476-5513

The AC Cemetery Association is raffling (2) half beefs with processing.  Proceeds go to support and maintain the AC Cemetery.  Winners will be announced at the Applefest in September. Tickets are available for purchase at St. Clair Co. State Bank, Powell’s Tru Value and Noble Machine and Manufacturing for $10 each.

The AC Library has become a Dolly Parton Imagination Library affiliate.  That means brand new free age-appropriate books will be available for local children ages birth until they turn 5.  Sign up is easy.  Just fill out a small form at the Library and books can be chosen to fit your children’s age that will start coming to your mailbox once a month.  Stop in or call the Library for more information at 660-476-5513.

Ellett Memorial Hospital Girl’s Day Out will be noon-5:00 p.m. Sunday, October 6, 2019. Please come join them for their 2nd Annual Breast Cancer Wellness & Awareness Day. Receive your pre-registered annual mammogram by Diagnostic Imaging Center Mobile Coach, win prizes, gather information, support others, and recognize survivors. There will be Breast Cancer speakers sharing their life stories, talking about genetics and facts of Breast Cancer. A light lunch will be served and treats will be available to indulge. If you or someone you know is a Breast Cancer survivor, please let them know who and how long, so that they may recognize them and celebrate. Uninsured women 40-49 that meet the guidelines can apply for funding of mammogram through the Show Me Healthy Women Program.
