Maggie’s Story

FM 92 features Maggie Jacobs a 15-year-old girl from Adrian who has been diagnosed with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome along with three other diagnoses and needs the community’s assistance with medical expenses.

At age 10 Maggie Jacobs of Adrian began complaining of excessive pain and her parents, Brent and Shari Jacobs, took her to the doctor, several doctors in fact.  Maggie went from one specialist to another until she was finally diagnosed at age 14 with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, Craniocervical Instability, Hyperadrenergic Postural Tachycardia Syndrome and Systemic juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis.

During the past year Maggie has undergone 3 spine surgeries. Surgery one was a fusion from her skull to C3 vertebra, the second surgery was fusion revision to remove hardware and third a tethered cord laminectomy. Even after all these surgeries Maggie is still in extreme pain most of the time.

Maggie’s doctor has recommended Ketamine infusions to help with her pain, but unfortunately most insurances do not cover these infusions.  Maggie must have these infusions to have any hope of improving her pain and getting back to being a normal 15-year-old Freshman at Adrian High School.

Maggie needs a Ketamine infusion weekly for the foreseeable future.  These infusions are $750.00 each which these parents will need to pay out of their pocket.

This is the time for our community to step up to help this family.  A benefit account has been set up at the Adrian Bank, there is a go fund me account the link to this is https://fundrazr.com/campaigns/b1jhD7.  You can find this link on our website at 921news.com search for Maggie Jacobs.

Family friends of the Jacobs are also holding a fundraising event for Maggie. Maggie’s Drag will be Saturday, November 6th beginning at 10am at the Bates County Elks lodge located at 1000 Elks Drive in Butler.  Bring your Motorcycles for the Dyno Drag Racing, there will be a 50/50 raffle, food and beverage will be available on site.

Maggie Jacob is the 15-year-old daughter of Brent and Shari Jacobs. Her grandparents are Steve and Donna Hubbard of Adrian and Joe and Vicki Jacobs of Drexel.
