Missouri Veterans Commission Veterans Service Officer Bill Gillette is encouraging all Veterans to get recommended screening tests and immunizations to prevent certain illnesses.
“The VA suggests that Veterans get screened for preventive services that depend on the Veterans age, sex, health status, and family history,” said Gillette, “I’m encouraging all Veterans to do so now so any health issues can be caught early.”
The VA recommends in addition to preventative screening that “Regardless of age, gender, health status and family history, most Veterans should be screened for alcohol abuse, depression, high blood pressure, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), military sexual trauma, obesity, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and tobacco use.” Veterans and their family members can learn more at https://www.prevention.va.gov/index.asp
Gillette says in order for Veterans to have access to VA Health Care, they must be enrolled. For assistance with enrolling with VA Health Care or to see if a Veteran or family members are eligible for other benefits, Gillette is encouraging them to bring a copy of their DD214 to his office by calling him at 417-448-1133.
