‘Money Smart for Older Adults’ coming to Zoom Nov. 11, 12

If you are looking for free, unbiased information on getting a handle on your retirement finances, Care Connection for Aging Services is offering a two-part Zoom course for older adults.

“Money Smart for Older Adults” on Zoom will be offered from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Nov. 11 and Nov. 12. To register and receive a link, call 1-800-748-7826, email information@goaging.org,  or visit goaging.org/events.

The first session will cover preventing financial exploitation and identity theft, and the second session will address preparing financially for unexpected circumstances.

“We have some really good information about the different types of financial scams that target seniors,” said Care Connection Public Information Coordinator Shannon Poskocil, who is presenting the sessions. “We’ll also discuss how to organize your documents, which ones to keep in a fireproof box at home, and which to keep at a safe deposit box in a bank. And, we will have time for questions and answers.”

The program is based on information from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. (FDIC) and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

Money Smart is part of the area agency on aging’s Connect! Online series for people 60 and older and caregivers.

Care Connection serves 21 locations in 13 West Central Missouri counties, including Bates, Benton, Carroll, Cedar, Chariton, Henry, Hickory, Johnson, Lafayette, Pettis, Saline, St. Clair and Vernon.
