Nevada Regional Medical Center (NRMC) Foundation is moving forward with plans to host the 17th annual Caring with Pride Golf Classic on Friday, May 29th at the Frank E. Peters Municipal Golf Course. Proceeds from this year’s tournament will go into a newly established Emergency Response Fund to support immediate needs of NRMC and its employees during events such as the global COVID-19 pandemic.
NRMC, like so many other hospitals, experienced cash loss during the state and county-wide stay at home orders. Low volumes from the postponing of elective surgery and many other services, coupled with rising costs of personal protective equipment, equate to big hits to cash reserves.
“NRMC has certainly been headed in the right direction,” said Steve Branstetter, Chief Executive Officer at NRMC. “But the financial impact of this virus to the hospital is concerning and we are doing everything we can to try and mitigate cash loss. We are grateful the Foundation board has taken action by creating an emergency response fund.”
The tournament is open to the first 36 teams who register and will be scored with a first, second and third place team in at least three flights, depending on the number of teams registered. This year, as in recent years, prizes awarded will be in cash, totaling more than $4,000.
“This year, we will operate things a little differently to accommodate for social distancing,” said Natalie Eberhard, NRMC Foundation Manager. “We’ll be offering a boxed breakfast and lunch instead of a buffet line and will forego the awards ceremony, replacing it with online announcements. Golf naturally lends itself to socially distancing, so we’re doing what we can to make all aspects of the tournament safe and we hope to have a great turnout for the benefit of the hospital.”
In years past, a prize drawing opportunity has been available to players and the public. However, for several reasons related to the impact of COVID-19, there will not be a drawing this year. As always, participants will be swinging to win side-event contests and coveted hole-in-one prizes on the par 3 holes, including a brand-new golf cart from Grizzly Bear Golf Cars.
Sponsorships of the Caring with Pride Golf Classic are also available. The deadline to register to play in the tournament is Friday, May 22. For more information or to register, call the NRMC Foundation office at (417) 448-3801 or visit www.nrmchealth.com.
