Guess what time it is? It is time for the 27th Annual Papinville Picnic. On August 21 a meeting was held in the shelter house to make final plans for the 2017 picnic. All plans are now in place and they are hoping that everyone will mark their calendars to be in beautiful downtown Papinville on September 23rd to enjoy all the fun and activities beginning at 1:00.
There will be live music beginning at 1:00. Historic wagon ride at 2:00, giving you history of Papinville and People as it was years ago. Cost of tickets will be $3.00 for adults and children under 10 will be $1.50. Cake walk, bingo and silent auction. Kids will be able to enjoy a craft, duck pond and coloring contest. Pie contest with entries to be in by 3:00 with live auction of the pies and a few historical items to begin at 4:00. Historical items include a hand- made wood product made by Jim Wheatley, a christening dress that came from the Griffin family and a couple of vintage linen pieces. The buffet meal to begin at approximately 5:00 for free will offering. Menu will be about the same with the meat being pulled pork and smoked chicken legs and thighs. As in all years past you may bring a dessert in a disposable dish or pan and tell us where you would like it to be used; meal, calk walk or pie contest and auction.
This year is the 170th Birthday of the town of Papinville and to celebrate that special date a committee of Phyllis Stewart, Beverly Sullins, Connie Coffman and Lori Stewart have put together a Papinville Activity Book. This book is dedicated to all, both young and old, who have an interest in history, Papinville and the state of Missouri. It has 28 pages of various types of puzzles, coloring pages, facts and an answer page in case you get stumped. Some things are easy for children and others a little harder for the adults. A great Christmas present for all your friends, neighbors and family, especially the grandchildren.
The Papinville Picnic will have a quilt drawing. This year’s quilt is made of vintage material and it measures 74” X 76”. The quilt top was purchased at the sale of Cleata York. Tickets are $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00 and will be given away at 6:00 at same time silent auction ends.
The annual Papinville Picnic has made lighting improvements in the museum and they thank Brice Fischer for doing that work for them. They are purchasing more tables with Jerry and Angela Stangel in charge of purchasing them. They have been given shelving that will be used in the future in addition to the museum that is being discussed. That shelving was donated to the annual Papinville Picnic by the past and present owners of the Apache Motel in Rich Hill. Betty Lemon, daughter of Paul and Violette Raps, donated an antique Settee. Those who donate items, give of yourself in time and energy, or make a monetary or memorial donation, they thank you from the bottom of their hearts. Everyone’s support is what makes the organization continue to thrive and move forward.
Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy good music, fun, visiting and food the 2017 event will be held Saturday September 23rd.
