The Bates County Sheriff’s Office has been receiving calls from citizens regarding a scam that is in our area. Someone is calling people asking to speak with someone at the residence saying that there is a legal matter that they need to get taken care of. When you call the number back you get an automated system saying that it is the Bates County Sheriff’s Office and it gives you prompts to follow.
Sheriff Anderson wants to make sure the community knows that this is a scam and you are not actually calling the Bates County Sheriff’s Office when you call the number back. The phone number you are asked to call back is 660-851-6801.
