Second Arrest in Home Invasion Investigation in Henry County

Update:  On Wednesday, December 18, 2019, Detective Kubilus and Detective Lawson detained a juvenile in connection with the December 17, 2019 home invasion involving an 83 year old resident of Calhoun.  After interviewing the juvenile, the Henry County Juvenile Authorities took custody of the juvenile for disposition in the matter.  “We believe that Colby Thornton, age 17 and this juvenile are the only ones involved in this investigation.  Other evidence continues to be collected and lab evidence will be submitted to help support the prosecution of these two.  I want to commend my staff for their great work on this investigation”, Sheriff Oberkrom said.

Update:  Colby Thornton has been charged by Henry County Prosecuting Attorney Richard Shields with burglary 1st degree, kidnapping and stealing.  Thornton’s bond has been set at $250,000.00 and he remains in custody at the Henry County Sheriff’s Office.

On December 17, 2019 at approximately 2:15 a.m., Cpl Swindell was dispatched to Olive Street in Calhoun regarding a home invasion.  At the residence, the elderly female homeowner told Cpl. Swindell that people had entered here home, tied her up and left with her purse and her vehicle.  Detectives Kubilus and Lawson responded to the scene to assist.  The victim, was transported to Golden Valley Hospital by ambulance for evaluation of possible injuries.  While investigation the scene, deputies followed information that led them to the victims stolen vehicle and later to a residence in Calhoun.  A suspect, 17 year old Colby Thornton, was arrested on a 24 hour hold for burglary in the 1st degree, third degree kidnapping and stealing.  Thornton remains in custody at the Henry County Detention Center.  The investigation is on-going and additional suspects are being sought this morning regarding this incident.
