Second Set of Remains Identified in Cass County.

CASS CO – the Jackson County Medical Examiner’s Office positively identified the second set of remains found in Cass County on April 4, 2017 as Kara Kopetsky of Belton. Kopetsky went missing from Belton, MO on May 4, 2007.

The family of Kara Kopetsky met with Belton Police Chief James Person, Cass County Sheriff Jeff Weber and Cass County Prosecuting Attorney Ben Butler regarding the identification.

The Jackson County Medical Examiner’s Office received the results of the laboratory analysis which was conducted by the F.B.I.

“I have received both the mitochondrial DNA and nuclear DNA reports from the FBI for the unidentified skeleton recovered in Cass County. Both reports indicate the remains are that of Kara Elise Kopetsky.” Diane C. Peterson, MD Jackson County Chief Medical Examiner

The remains of Kopetsky were found near the remains of Jessica Runions on April 4, 201719th in a rural Cass County field south of Belton. Investigations by the Belton Police and Kansas City Police Department are still ongoing at this time.

Due to the ongoing and sensitive nature of the investigations that continue by multiple law enforcement agencies no further information will be released at this time.
