Silver Haired Legislature Election to be May 4 at Benton County senior centers

Elections for a Silver Haired Legislature Representative position to represent Benton County will take place from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on May 4. The candidates running for the position are Carol Way Hefner and Cynthia L. Smith.

Balloting will take place at the Cole Camp Senior Center, 206 E. Junge, Cole Camp, and the Warsaw Senior Center, Harbor Village, 17571 North Dam Access Road, Warsaw. Absentee ballots are available at each center

The sentence Absentee ballots are available at each center and must be returned by May 3. Balloting is open to Benton County residents 60 and older.

The Silver Haired Legislature is a formally elected body of citizens 60 years and older who promote conscientious legislative advocacy for Missouri’s older adults. All members are volunteers who serve without pay. After elections, the legislators meet to elect officers and begin to ascertain the needs of seniors in their districts. Bills and resolutions are then drawn up and prepared for presentation at the statewide conference in the fall.
