The Sugar Mound Arts and Craft Festival is October 12th and 13th at the Linn County Fairgrounds in Mound City, KS Saturday, October 12th the gates open at 9 am, there is a parade at 10 am with the theme being “The Beat Goes On”. There is also a 5K Run at Jayhawk-Linn High School. Proceeds from the 5K go to scholarships for area high school seniors. Sunday, October 13th it’s the Union Church Service at 8 am and then the gates to the arts and craft festival open at 9. There is no admission fee to the festival and parking is free but limited. Bates County Broadcasting opened as a single day-time station on May 11th 1962. Broadcasting from sunrise to sunset 7-days each week. This was the first radio station to broadcast in the Bates County Area. Owned and Operated by Bill Thornton and his brother Jerry Thornton.
In 1975 the FM Frequency was added and the stations simulcast. The FM has a 24 hours license but just broadcast from 6 am until 10 pm.
